A Short Devotion on Selflessness for Your Next Meeting

πŸ“– Philippians 2:4

β€œLook not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

πŸ’ Reflection

The verse doesn't say ignore your own things entirely, it says also look at others' concerns, adding a second focus rather than erasing the first. In practice, that might mean noticing what someone else in this meeting is carrying, or needs, or is worried about, alongside your own agenda for today. This is a genuinely achievable instruction precisely because it doesn't demand self-erasure, it just asks for a widened field of attention, which is a habit anyone can practice starting immediately.

βœ… In Practice

Before this meeting ends, ask one person what they're carrying outside of today's agenda, and actually make space to hear the answer instead of moving straight to the next item. This is a small habit that compounds into real trust over time, more than any single grand gesture ever really would.

πŸ—£ Discuss

What is someone else in this room carrying today that we haven't asked about or considered?

πŸ™ Pray

God, widen our focus today beyond our own priorities. Help us genuinely notice and care about what others here are carrying, not just what's sitting on our own plate. Amen.
