A Short Devotion on Unity for Your Next Meeting

πŸ“– Psalm 133:1

β€œBehold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

πŸ’ Reflection

Every group that gathers regularly, a team, a committee, a small group, faces the same quiet temptation: to let small disagreements calcify into permanent sides. The psalmist doesn't call unity easy, he calls it good and pleasant, worth actively pursuing rather than something that just happens on its own. Walking into a room already looking for common ground changes the whole tone of what follows. Think of the last time two people in a group quietly stopped collaborating over something small, a miscommunication, a perceived slight, unity is the daily discipline of not letting that distance harden into permanent camp lines.

βœ… In Practice

Before moving to the agenda, ask each person to name one thing they respect about someone else in the room. Small, specific affirmations do more for group unity than a general call to "get along." If real division exists, don't paper over it, name it briefly and agree to address it properly outside this opening moment.

πŸ—£ Discuss

Where in this group have we let a small disagreement get bigger than it needs to be?

πŸ™ Pray

Lord, before we get into today's business, remind us we're on the same side. Help us listen for common ground before we look for who's right. Where there's real division among us, give us the courage to name it honestly and the humility to work toward reconciliation rather than letting it quietly fester. Amen.
