A Short Devotion on Joy for Your Next Meeting

πŸ“– Nehemiah 8:10

β€œNeither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

πŸ’ Reflection

This was said to a people who had just realized how far they'd fallen short, and the instruction wasn't to wallow in that, it was to find strength in joy instead of grief. A team under pressure often defaults to grim seriousness as if it were the same thing as diligence. It isn't. Joy is fuel, not a distraction from the work. Grief and seriousness have their place, but this verse suggests they aren't sustainable as a group's primary posture, joy is what actually supplies the strength to keep going well.

βœ… In Practice

Find one genuinely good thing about this season of work and say it out loud before diving into the harder parts of today's agenda. Don't force cheerfulness that isn't real, but do look honestly for what's actually good right now, even if it takes a moment to find it.

πŸ—£ Discuss

Have we let this project or season become joyless in a way that's actually draining us?

πŸ™ Pray

Lord, let Your joy be our strength today, not grim determination. Help us find something to be glad about even in hard work, and let that gladness genuinely strengthen us rather than just distract us. Amen.
