A Short Devotion on Honesty for Your Next Meeting

πŸ“– Proverbs 12:22

β€œLying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.”

πŸ’ Reflection

It's a strong contrast, abomination against delight, for something that often feels small in the moment, softening bad news, avoiding an awkward truth, exaggerating progress. God's view of honest dealing isn't neutral, it's delight. That's worth remembering the next time truth-telling feels harder than the alternative. Most dishonesty in a working group isn't dramatic lying, it's small, habitual softening, a status report that's slightly rosier than reality, and that pattern is worth noticing precisely because it feels so minor.

βœ… In Practice

If there's a piece of bad news or a delay that's been softened in previous updates, give the plain version today, even if it's uncomfortable to say out loud. Delayed honesty almost always costs more than immediate honesty does, and the delay itself rarely makes the news any easier to hear later on.

πŸ—£ Discuss

Is there a truth we've been softening or avoiding that this group actually needs to hear plainly?

πŸ™ Pray

Father, give us the courage to deal truly with each other today, even when honesty is uncomfortable. Let this be a room where the plain, unpolished version of the truth is always welcome, never punished. Amen.
