A Short Devotion on Generosity for Your Next Meeting

πŸ“– 2 Corinthians 9:7

β€œEvery man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

πŸ’ Reflection

This verse is about money originally, but the principle stretches further, time, credit, attention, effort. Grudging generosity technically gives the same amount but costs the giver something different inside, and it's usually felt by the person receiving it. What would it look like to give what this meeting needs from you cheerfully instead of reluctantly? People tend to notice the difference between help offered freely and help offered with visible resentment, even when the practical outcome looks identical on paper.

βœ… In Practice

If you're asked to give something today, time, credit, flexibility, notice whether you're giving it cheerfully or grudgingly, and choose cheerfully on purpose, even if the ask is inconvenient. If you genuinely can't give it cheerfully, say so honestly instead of giving it resentfully, since resentment tends to leak out anyway.

πŸ—£ Discuss

Where are we being asked to give something, time, effort, credit, that we could give more cheerfully?

πŸ™ Pray

Lord, help us give generously today, whatever that looks like, without resentment. Make us cheerful givers, not grudging ones, and show us where we've been keeping a quiet tally of what we've given. Amen.
