A Short Devotion on Focus for Your Next Meeting

πŸ“– Philippians 3:14

β€œI press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

πŸ’ Reflection

Paul writes this after describing everything he'd rather forget, the past he's not dwelling on. Focus, in his picture, isn't just concentration on the task at hand, it's a decision about what to stop carrying so there's energy left for what's ahead. Distraction is often old business we haven't set down yet. It's worth noticing how much mental energy in a meeting gets quietly spent on something unrelated to the actual agenda, a lingering frustration, an unresolved question from last week, before real focus becomes possible again.

βœ… In Practice

Before diving into today's agenda, name one thing from last week that's still distracting the room, and consciously set it down so it doesn't compete for attention today. Naming it out loud is often enough to loosen its grip, even if it isn't fully resolved yet.

πŸ—£ Discuss

What's still taking up mental space today that we need to set down so we can focus on what's ahead?

πŸ™ Pray

Father, help us press forward today without dragging yesterday's distractions with us. Keep our eyes on what matters, and give us the freedom to set down what isn't ours to carry right now. Amen.
