Most meetings are focused on the next quarter, the next deadline, the immediate problem. This verse offers a longer lens, what are we building that will still matter after we've moved on from this table entirely. Some decisions deserve to be weighed against that question, not just the urgent one in front of us. It's worth asking which of today's decisions are actually about this quarter and which ones are quietly setting a pattern that will outlast everyone currently in the room.

Ask the room: if we only think about the next quarter, does today's decision look different than if we think about the next ten years? Let that shape the choice, especially on decisions that set precedent for how things get done later, since precedent tends to outlast the people who originally set it in motion.
