Assemblies of God College Closes After 87 Years Amid Financial Crisis
The University of Valley Forge, an Assemblies of God-affiliated Christian university in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, announced in late July that its Board of Trustees voted to suspend academic operations at the end of the Summer 2026 semester, ending 87 years of operation. The board said it could not responsibly continue after the Middle States Commission on Higher Education placed the 589-student school on "Show Cause" status, its most serious warning, over concerns about finances, planning, and governance.
The university said it will stay operational through a teach-out period and is working with partner schools, including Eastern University, Messiah University, and Southeastern University, to offer transferring students matched tuition, waived application fees, and continued financial aid. "Our immediate focus is on you," the board told students in its announcement. "We are working diligently with partner institutions, accrediting agencies, and regulatory bodies."
