Commissioners at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s 227th General Assembly voted 339 to 138 on June 29 to let congregations voluntarily indicate openness to calling an LGBTQIA+ pastor through an optional field in the denomination's ministry profile system. The assembly also voted 419 to 54 to advance a new denomination-wide study developing theological and ethical frameworks on human sexuality, family, and gender.
Separately, Stated Clerk Rev. Jihyun Oh offered an unscripted apology for how the dissolution of Presbyterian World Mission was handled, saying staff had felt silenced. A related measure barring nondisclosure agreements in employment passed 452 to 11.
