PCA Rejects Female Deacons Proposal, Advances Christian Nationalism Report

Church Desk · why this matters for churches·June 2026

The Presbyterian Church in America's General Assembly voted decisively on June 25 to reject Overture 37, a proposal that would have allowed women to serve as ordained deacons. Two days earlier, the assembly voted to distribute a partial report from its Ad Interim Committee on Christian Nationalism to all sessions and presbyteries, rejecting "any form of Christian nationalism that incorporates ethnic partiality, racial superiority or a conflation of national identity with the kingdom of God."

The Christian Nationalism report is not yet a final adopted statement. The committee's work was extended another year, with a full report expected at the 2027 General Assembly. Together, the two votes show a denomination working through both its internal governance questions and its position on a term that has become a flashpoint across American Christianity.

This brief is based on reporting from Christian Post.
