Latter-day Saints Break Ground on Colorado Springs Temple
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 12 for the Colorado Springs Colorado Temple, to be built on 18.6 acres in the city's Flying Horse neighborhood. Elder Karl D. Hirst of the church's United States Central Area Presidency presided over the ceremony, which was broadcast online for members who could not attend in person. The single story temple will be the state's fourth, joining existing temples in Denver, Fort Collins, and Grand Junction.
Church president Russell M. Nelson first announced plans for the Colorado Springs temple at the church's October 2023 General Conference. Elder Hirst told those gathered that a temple is a place of spiritual guidance, peace, hope, and revelation, calling temples literally the house of the Lord. Longtime temple ordinance workers Sandy and Rich Gardner also spoke at the ceremony about temples as places of comfort and spiritual connection. No completion date has been announced.
