The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced it will create 55 new missions effective July 1, bringing its total to 506 missions worldwide. The new missions, including locations in Malawi, Senegal, Togo, and the Solomon Islands, will be formed by adjusting the boundaries of existing missions rather than creating entirely new organizational structures.
The church said the expansion is meant to accommodate a growing number of called missionaries and help missionaries better support a rising number of congregations. Missionary numbers have grown from about 65,000 at the end of 2022 to more than 84,000 today, serving in over 150 countries.
