Christian Leaders From Across the Country Sign Declaration Against Chemical Abortion
Senator Josh Hawley unveiled the Declaration for Life on September 17 at a press conference in Washington with pastors and Christian leaders from across the country. The four page declaration, drafted with input from more than 30 pastors, affirms that human dignity begins from conception and calls on Congress to ban mifepristone, the drug used in most chemical abortions. The declaration states that state level abortion laws alone cannot protect unborn life so long as abortion pills remain available by mail.
The document notes that mifepristone is now used in roughly 70 percent of abortions performed in the United States, and that more than one million abortions took place in 2025. Organizers said the declaration was signed by faith leaders including pastors, seminary and university leaders, and members of allied Christian organizations, though sponsors did not release a final signer count. The declaration is a statement of principle rather than legislation and does not itself change federal law.
