At Least 24 Christians Killed in Overnight Attack on Nigerian Village

World Desk · tight, factual reporting·August 2026

Armed attackers stormed the Bin Mper community in Mangu County, Plateau State, overnight on August 18, killing at least 24 people and hospitalizing three others with injuries. International Christian Concern, citing local community leaders, said the assault was part of a wave of violence that struck at least three villages in the area over two days, following a similar attack on the nearby community of Jwak Maitumbi two days earlier.

Plateau State officials, including Commissioner for Information Joyce Lohya Ramnap, condemned the attack and said Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered increased security patrols in the area. State authorities said they have not yet assigned responsibility for the attack or identified suspects. A local community leader described the violence as part of a longstanding, recurring conflict over land in the region.

This brief is based on reporting from International Christian Concern.
