Pastor Jin Mingri, known as Ezra Jin, landed in Los Angeles on July 4 after being released from detention in Beihai, China, where he had been held since his arrest on October 10, 2025. His arrest came during a nationwide crackdown on Zion Church, one of China's largest unregistered Protestant churches, in which 27 other pastors and church members were also detained. His release followed a humanitarian arrangement reached after a May summit between President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
At least eight Zion Church leaders remain in detention, including Pastor Gao Yingjia and Pastor Wang Lin. Human rights groups that welcomed Jin's release, including Fortify Rights and the Human Rights Foundation, are continuing to call for the release of the others still held.
