Myanmar Military Shoots and Kills Baptist Pastor Near Chin State Village
Myanmar's military shot and killed Rev. Dal Thawn Tuang, assistant pastor of Lamzang Baptist Church, on September 14 as he was returning from church activities near the Kapte bridge in Lamzang Village, Chin State. The Burma Research Institute confirmed his death, saying gunfire struck his chest, abdomen, and thigh. Tuang had served at Lamzang Baptist for 22 years and is survived by his wife and two children.
The killing follows the June 4 execution of another Baptist pastor, Rev. William, and church member Nam Ceu, who had been detained for about a month before they were killed. Since Myanmar's 2021 military coup, more than 340 churches have been damaged or destroyed and roughly 149 Christians have been killed, according to tracking by International Christian Concern. ICC president Shawn Wright asked Christians in the West to pray for the grieving families and for the Burmese church to stay united through the ongoing violence.
