Federal Agency Sues Las Vegas Casino Over Fired Messianic Jewish Worker

Liberty Desk · laws, courts, and the public square·Nov 4, 2026

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Circa Resort and Casino in federal court in Nevada, alleging the Las Vegas casino fired a cage cashier who is Messianic Jewish after she declined a manager's order to remove her religious headscarf. The agency says the manager cited the company's grooming policy and sent her home without pay when she refused, and that Circa's human resources department then told her she needed a letter from a rabbi before she could return. She was fired in July 2024 after failing to produce one. The complaint also says Circa had previously allowed another Jewish employee to wear a religious head covering without that requirement.

The EEOC is seeking back pay, damages, and a court order requiring the casino to change its accommodation practices, after pursuing a settlement through its conciliation process first. Circa had not responded publicly to the lawsuit as of this writing. The case is one of several the agency has filed this year involving employees who say employers denied requests tied to religious dress or grooming.

This brief is based on reporting from U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
