💭 What This Means
Today's reading marks a significant shift, moving from the conquest of the land to its distribution among the tribes. Chapter twelve recounts the many kings Israel defeated, a powerful reminder of God's hand in their victories. In chapter thirteen, we hear that Joshua is now old, and though much territory remains to be possessed, God commands the division of the land to begin. This highlights God's faithfulness to His promises, even when the work isn't entirely finished by human hands. The Levites, uniquely, receive no land inheritance, for the Lord God of Israel Himself is their portion. The undeniable highlight is Caleb. At eighty-five years old, he stands before Joshua, reminding him of Moses' promise from forty-five years earlier. Caleb, still as strong and courageous as ever, boldly asks for Hebron, a mountain country still occupied by the giant Anakim. Joshua blesses him, granting him his inheritance. Even Caleb's daughter, Achsah, demonstrates a similar boldness, asking for springs of water, which her father generously provides.

Lord, thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness to Your promises. Help me to have the persistent courage of Caleb, trusting You completely and claiming the inheritance You have for me, no matter the obstacles. Give me the boldness to ask for Your blessings, just like Achsah. In Jesus' name, Amen.
