💭 What This Means
Today's reading gives us Moses' powerful "Song" from Deuteronomy, a final warning and remembrance for Israel. He calls heaven and earth to witness God's perfect character as "the Rock" and His faithful care, leading them from the wilderness like an eagle and providing abundantly. Yet, the song then describes Israel's rebellion, how they "waxed fat, and kicked," forgetting their Creator and turning to false gods. God declares His righteous judgment, but also His ultimate faithfulness to His people. The passage concludes with God telling Moses he will see the promised land from Mount Nebo but will not enter it because of his past sin. Then, Psalm 90, also a prayer of Moses, contrasts God's eternal nature with humanity's fleeting life. It asks God to teach us to number our days wisely and to satisfy us with His mercy, establishing the work of our hands.
