💭 What This Means

Babel is humanity at its most ambitious and most lost, building a tower to make a name for themselves, scattered instead into confusion. Right after that, Genesis narrows down to a single family line, Shem to Abram, and God tells one man to leave everything he knows, promising that through him, "all families of the earth" will be blessed. Abram doesn't fully understand where he's going. He just goes. When Abram and his nephew Lot have too much livestock to share the land, Abram gives Lot the first choice, the kind of generosity that could have cost him everything. Lot picks the lush plain toward Sodom, a city we'll hear a lot more about soon. Abram stays in the harder land, and God tells him to look in every direction, because all of it will one day be his. Then, when Lot is captured in a regional war, Abram doesn't hesitate. He rides out and rescues him. Faith here isn't a feeling, it's action, again and again.

Lord, You chose one man to bless the whole world. Thank You that You still use ordinary, willing people. Give me the same kind of faith Abram had, the kind that packs up and goes when You say go, and gives the better half away without keeping score. In Jesus' name, Amen.
