Meeting God at Sinai

Exodus 16:1-19:25

Today's reading, then a short explanation, then a closing prayer — all one recording.

💭 What This Means

The journey through the wilderness continues, and so do the people's complaints. They grumble for food and water, forgetting God's past deliverance. Yet, God faithfully provides manna from heaven, quails to eat, and water from a rock Moses strikes. He is their provider, even when they test Him. We also see Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, offering wise counsel about leadership and delegation, showing us that even great leaders need help. Finally, the Israelites arrive at Mount Sinai, a pivotal moment. God calls them to be His treasured possession, a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. He prepares them to meet Him, commanding them to sanctify themselves. On the third day, the mountain thunders, smokes, and quakes as God descends in a powerful display of His holy presence. This incredible scene sets the stage for God to speak His covenant.

🙏 Let's Pray

Lord, thank You for Your faithful provision, even when we, like the Israelites, doubt and complain. Thank You for showing Your awesome power and holiness at Mount Sinai, and for inviting us into covenant with You. Help us to respond to Your call to be Your holy people and to trust You fully today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
