💭 What This Means
Today we pick up with Israel finally leaving Egypt. God commands them to consecrate all their firstborn as a perpetual reminder of His saving power. He then guides them not by the shortest route, but through the wilderness toward the Red Sea, with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night. Pharaoh quickly changes his mind and pursues them with his army, trapping them against the sea. The people are terrified and complain, but Moses tells them to "stand still and see the salvation of the Lord." And that's exactly what they do. God moves His presence between them and the Egyptians. Moses stretches out his hand, and a strong wind parts the Red Sea, allowing Israel to walk through on dry ground. When the Egyptians pursue, the waters collapse on them, drowning Pharaoh's entire army. What an incredible victory! The people respond with a powerful song of praise. But the journey isn't over. They soon find themselves in the wilderness, thirsty, with bitter water at Marah. Again, God provides, showing Moses a tree to make the water sweet, revealing Himself as "the Lord who heals."

Lord, thank You that You are the God who leads us, even when the path seems impossible. Thank You for fighting our battles and for providing for us in the wilderness. Help us to stand still and trust in Your salvation, knowing that You are the Lord who heals. In Jesus' name, Amen.
