💭 What This Means
Today we see the culmination of God's mighty hand against Egypt. The plagues of locusts and palpable darkness further demonstrate Pharaoh's stubborn heart, even as his own servants urge him to let Israel go. But God has a final, devastating judgment: the death of every firstborn in Egypt. Before this terrifying event, the Lord establishes the Passover. Each Israelite family is to sacrifice a spotless lamb, painting its blood on their doorposts. This blood would be a sign for the Lord to "pass over" their homes, sparing their firstborn. They eat the meal in haste, ready for immediate departure. At midnight, the Lord strikes, and a great cry rises from Egypt. Pharaoh, broken, commands Moses and the Israelites to leave at once, taking all their possessions. After four hundred and thirty years, God's people are finally delivered from slavery.

Lord, thank You for the incredible deliverance You brought to Your people. We see Your power and Your perfect plan in the Passover, where the blood of a lamb saved Your children. Thank You for providing a way for us to be spared from judgment. Help us remember that You are our rescuer. In Jesus' name, Amen.
