💭 What This Means

Today's reading from the Apostle John's letters reminds us of the profound truth that God is love. He first loved us, sending His Son to be the propitiation for our sins, so that we might live through Him. Our love for God is proven by our love for one another and by keeping His commandments, which are not burdensome. John emphasizes that whoever believes Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and this faith is the victory that overcomes the world. The Spirit, water, and blood bear witness to Jesus, assuring us of eternal life in Him. Then, in the short letters of 2 and 3 John, we see these principles applied. 2 John warns against deceivers who deny Christ's humanity, urging us to abide in the doctrine of Christ and not to support those who stray from the truth. 3 John praises Gaius for his faithful walk in truth and his hospitality to missionaries, contrasting it with Diotrephes who loved preeminence. These letters call us to live out God's love and truth in our lives, in belief, in community, and in our interactions with others, even when facing opposition.

🙏 Let's Pray

Lord, thank You for being love, and for loving me first. Help me to love others as You have loved me, and to keep Your commandments. Strengthen my faith to overcome the world and to always walk in Your truth. Give me discernment to recognize and avoid anything that would lead me away from Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
