Day 358 of 365

God Is Light, Love, and Truth

1 John 1:1-4:6

▶ Listen to Today's Reading

Today's reading, then a short explanation, then a closing prayer — all one recording.

💭 What This Means

John begins by declaring the reality of Jesus, the Word of life, whom he and the other apostles saw and touched. This firsthand testimony underpins everything. He then establishes a foundational truth: God is light, and in Him is no darkness. Therefore, walking in fellowship with God means walking in the light. This includes confessing our sins, because the blood of Jesus cleanses us. He is our advocate, a propitiation for our sins. John stresses that knowing God means keeping His commandments, especially the old yet new command to love one another. This love is a sign we have passed from death to life. He warns against loving the world and its desires, and against false spirits who deny that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. Our anointing from the Holy One helps us discern truth and abide in Christ, knowing we are children of God.

🙏 Let's Pray

Lord, thank You that You are light, and in You is no darkness. Thank You for Jesus, our advocate, who cleanses us from all sin. Help me to walk in Your light, confessing my sins and loving others with actions, not just words. Give me wisdom to discern truth and to abide in Your Son. In Jesus' name, Amen.
