💭 What This Means
Today we finish 1 Peter with a final encouragement about God's true grace, before diving into Peter's second letter. In 2 Peter, he urges believers to grow in their faith, adding virtues like knowledge, patience, and love, so they can partake in God's divine nature and make their calling sure. He reminds them that he was an eyewitness to Christ's majesty at the Transfiguration, and that prophecy is a sure word given by the Holy Spirit. Peter then issues a strong warning against false teachers who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying the Lord who bought them. He assures us that God's judgment for the ungodly is certain, just as He saved Noah and Lot. Finally, Peter addresses scoffers who doubt Christ's return, reminding them of God's longsuffering patience. He emphasizes that the Day of the Lord will surely come, bringing new heavens and a new earth. Therefore, we are called to live holy lives, growing in grace and knowledge, steadfastly awaiting His coming.
🙏 Let's Pray
Lord, thank You for the precious promises You have given us. Help me to diligently add to my faith and grow in grace and the knowledge of You. Keep me steadfast against false teachings and help me to live a holy life, always looking for the new heavens and new earth You promised. In Jesus' name, Amen.
