💭 What This Means
Today's reading introduces us to Jesus as our great High Priest. Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, Jesus is perfect. He is able to sympathize with our weaknesses because He was tempted in every way we are, yet He never sinned. This means we can come boldly to God's throne of grace, confident that we will receive mercy and help in our time of need. The writer explains that Jesus' priesthood is not like Aaron's, but like Melchizedek's, a mysterious figure from Genesis. This makes Jesus' priesthood superior and eternal, established by God's own oath. Our hope in Jesus is described as an anchor for the soul, reaching securely into heaven itself. Because Jesus lives forever, He has an unchangeable priesthood and is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, always interceding for us.

Lord, thank You for Jesus, our great High Priest. Thank You that He understands my struggles, and that because of Him, I can come boldly to Your throne of grace. Help me to remember that He is always interceding for me, and that my hope in Him is an anchor for my soul. Strengthen my faith in Your unchanging promises. In Jesus' name, Amen.
