💭 What This Means
Paul's journey to Jerusalem is filled with poignant farewells and urgent warnings. At Miletus, he gathers the Ephesian elders, reminding them of his humble and tearful ministry. He urges them to guard the flock against "grievous wolves" and false teachers from within. Paul famously declares, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." He tells them he is "bound in the spirit" for Jerusalem, knowing afflictions await, but he is determined to "finish his course with joy." As he continues his voyage, disciples in Tyre and the prophet Agabus warn him not to go, even demonstrating his impending bonds. Paul, however, remains resolute, declaring he is ready to be bound and even die for Jesus. Upon arriving in Jerusalem, he tries to bridge divides by participating in a purification ritual. Yet, this quickly backfires as Jews from Asia stir up the crowd, falsely accusing him. The city erupts in violence, and Paul is dragged from the temple, ultimately arrested and bound, just as prophesied.
