💭 What This Means
Today's reading lays out a foundational truth: every human being, Jew and Gentile alike, is accountable to God and falls short of His glory. Chapters two and three make it clear that no one is truly righteous by their own deeds or by keeping the law. The law's purpose is not to save us, but to show us our sin. But then, Paul reveals the incredible good news: God's righteousness has been made known apart from the law. This righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ, who God set forth as a propitiation for our sins. Chapter four then turns to Abraham, showing he was justified by faith, not by works or circumcision, long before the law was given. His belief was counted as righteousness. This same faith is available to us, if we believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered for our offenses and raised for our justification.

Lord, thank You for clearly showing us our need for You. We confess that no one is righteous on their own. Thank You for providing righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ. Help me to fully trust in His sacrifice and resurrection for my justification today and every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
