💭 What This Means

Today's readings give us a snapshot of Paul's tireless ministry and a profound declaration of the Gospel. In 1 Corinthians, we hear his practical instructions for the church, like collecting for the saints and standing firm in faith, love, and strength. He shares his travel plans and encourages the Corinthians to receive Timothy well. Then, in Acts, we witness the powerful impact of Paul's preaching in Ephesus, so much so that it incites a riot among those whose livelihoods depended on idol worship. It's a vivid picture of the opposition the Gospel often faces. Finally, we begin Paul's letter to the Romans, a foundational text. He declares he is "not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation." He explains how God's invisible qualities are evident in creation, leaving humanity without excuse for worshipping created things rather than the Creator.
