💭 What This Means

Today, we witness two starkly contrasting scenes unfolding simultaneously. Jesus stands before the high priest and the entire council, enduring a mockery of a trial. False witnesses contradict each other, yet Jesus remains silent, until the high priest demands to know if He is the Christ, the Son of the Blessed. Jesus' powerful affirmation, "I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven," seals His condemnation. They spit on Him, strike Him, and declare Him worthy of death. Meanwhile, just outside in the courtyard, Peter, who vowed to die for Jesus, denies Him three times to mere servants. The cock crows, Jesus looks at Peter, and Peter remembers his Lord's words, weeping bitterly. Finally, we see Judas, seeing Jesus condemned, filled with remorse. He returns the blood money, confesses his sin, and tragically takes his own life.

Lord, today's reading is heavy. Thank You, Jesus, for enduring such injustice and shame for us. Forgive us for the times we deny You, even subtly, when it's inconvenient or scary. Help us to remember Your words and to turn back to You with repentant hearts. Strengthen our faith to stand firm. In Jesus' name, Amen.
