💭 What This Means

Today we enter the garden of Gethsemane, a place of profound anguish for Jesus. He prays, "Father, if it is possible, take this cup from me," but quickly adds, "nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done." His disciples, heavy with sorrow, fall asleep, even as an angel appears to strengthen Jesus. Then, Judas arrives with a multitude to betray Jesus with a kiss. Jesus confronts him, and when He declares "I am he," the guards fall backward. Peter impulsively draws his sword, cutting off the ear of the high priest's servant, Malchus, which Jesus heals, reminding Peter that He could summon legions of angels but chooses obedience. All the disciples then abandon Him and flee. Jesus is bound and led away to Annas, while Peter follows at a distance, beginning his own struggle with fear and denial. This is the hour of darkness.

Lord, today we see Your perfect obedience in Gethsemane. Thank You for choosing to drink the cup of suffering, even when it brought such agony. Help me to trust Your will, even when it's hard, and to find strength in Your presence. When I face temptation or fear, remind me to watch and pray. In Jesus' name, Amen.
