💭 What This Means

Today's reading reveals Jesus' final journey to Jerusalem before his passion. It begins with a profoundly moving act of devotion: Mary anointing Jesus with costly perfumed oil. While some, like Judas, saw it as a waste, Jesus defended her, declaring she was preparing his body for burial. He affirmed that wherever the Gospel is preached, her act of worship would be remembered. Then, we witness the Triumphal Entry, where Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling ancient prophecy. Crowds greet him with palm branches and shouts of "Hosanna," hailing him as King. Yet, amidst the celebration, Jesus weeps over the city, foreseeing its tragic future because they did not recognize the time of their visitation. He then teaches that like a grain of wheat, he must die to bear much fruit, and being 'lifted up' will draw all people to himself, signifying his impending crucifixion and ultimate glory.
