💭 What This Means

Today's reading reveals who truly enters God's kingdom. It begins with the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, showing that humility and a repentant heart are what God justifies, not self-righteousness. Jesus then teaches on marriage, reminding us of God's original, perfect design for one man and one woman becoming one flesh. He challenges the 'hardness of heart' that led to divorce. Immediately after, Jesus welcomes little children, rebuking his disciples and declaring that the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. We must receive it with childlike trust. Finally, the rich young ruler asks about eternal life. Jesus challenges him to sell his possessions and follow Him, revealing the man's heart was tied to his wealth.
