💭 What This Means
Today's reading holds incredible power and profound questions. In John, we witness Jesus' most dramatic miracle yet: raising Lazarus from the dead. Even after four days, Jesus calls Lazarus forth from the tomb, revealing His power over death itself. This amazing display leads many to believe, but it also solidifies the plot against Jesus' life. Caiaphas, unknowingly, prophesies that Jesus will die for the nation, and for all God's scattered children. Then in Luke, we see Jesus heal ten lepers, yet only one, a Samaritan, returns to give thanks. This highlights the importance of gratitude and faith. Jesus also teaches about the kingdom of God being within us, and warns about the suddenness of His return, urging us not to look back like Lot's wife. Finally, the parable of the persistent widow reminds us to always pray and never give up, trusting God to act justly and speedily, even as it asks if faith will be found when He returns.

Lord, thank You for Your incredible power over death, shown in raising Lazarus. Forgive me for times I lack gratitude, and help me be like the thankful Samaritan. Teach me to pray persistently, never giving up, and to live with an expectant faith for Your return. May my life be found faithful when You come. In Jesus' name, Amen.
