💭 What This Means

Today's reading shows Jesus on the move, heading toward Jerusalem and facing increasing opposition. His own brothers don't believe in him, and Samaritans reject him simply for going to Jerusalem. James and John want to call down fire, but Jesus reminds them his mission is to save, not destroy. He then lays out the steep cost of discipleship, telling followers there's no earthly comfort, and that devotion must be absolute, without looking back. At the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus teaches boldly, despite the plots to kill him. He offers 'living water' to all who thirst, speaking of the Holy Spirit. Even the officers sent to arrest him are stunned, declaring, 'Never man spake like this man.' Finally, we see Jesus's perfect blend of truth and grace with the woman caught in adultery. He silences her accusers, then offers her forgiveness and a new beginning, declaring himself 'the light of the world.'

Lord, thank You that You are the living water and the light of the world. Help me to follow You with wholehearted devotion, even when the path is difficult and there's no earthly comfort. Fill me with Your Spirit and teach me to extend the same mercy and grace You showed to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
