💭 What This Means
Today's reading brings us two very different but equally powerful encounters with Jesus. In John's Gospel, Jesus confronts his critics, revealing profound truths about his divine identity. He tells them that the truth will set them free from sin, and that he is from above, not of this world. His ultimate declaration, 'Before Abraham was, I am,' is a clear claim to his eternal divinity. This truth, sadly, leads some to try and stone him. Then, in Luke, we see Jesus sending out seventy disciples, giving them authority to heal and declare the kingdom of God. He teaches them about true neighborly love through the parable of the Good Samaritan, showing that compassion extends beyond our expectations. We also hear the simple yet profound story of Martha and Mary, reminding us that choosing to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to his word is the one thing necessary. Finally, Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray with confidence and persistence, assuring them that our Heavenly Father delights in giving good gifts, especially the Holy Spirit, to those who ask.

Lord, thank You for the truth that sets us free. Help me to truly know You, to sit at Your feet like Mary, and to love my neighbor like the Good Samaritan. Teach me to pray with persistence, trusting You to give good gifts, especially Your Holy Spirit, as I ask, seek, and knock. In Jesus' name, Amen.
