💭 What This Means

Today's reading is a turning point in Jesus' ministry. It begins with Jesus healing a blind man in stages, showing a deeper truth about spiritual sight. Then, in a pivotal moment, Jesus asks his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter steps forward with the bold declaration, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." But immediately after this incredible revelation, Jesus begins to teach them that he must suffer, be rejected, killed, and rise again. Peter struggles with this, even rebuking Jesus, who in turn sharply corrects him. Jesus then lays out the challenging path of discipleship: deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow him. This isn't an easy road, but it's the only one that truly saves. Finally, Peter, James, and John witness the breathtaking Transfiguration. Jesus' face shines, his clothes become dazzling white, and Moses and Elijah appear talking with him. A cloud overshadows them, and God's voice declares, "This is my beloved Son: hear him."
