💭 What This Means

Today’s reading highlights both profound faith and persistent misunderstanding. We see Jesus travel to Gentile territory, where a Syrophoenician woman shows incredible faith. Despite Jesus' initial testing words, she humbly persists, asking for crumbs from the children's table. His praise for her 'great faith' leads to her daughter's immediate healing. Jesus then heals a deaf man, restoring his speech, and countless others who are lame, blind, and mute, causing the crowds to glorify God. Again, great crowds gather, and Jesus, full of compassion, miraculously feeds four thousand people with just seven loaves and a few fish. Yet, the disciples still struggle to grasp his power and purpose. After confronting the Pharisees' demand for a sign, Jesus warns his disciples to beware of their 'leaven.' They initially think he's talking about literal bread, forgetting the two recent feedings. Jesus gently rebukes their lack of understanding, helping them realize he means the false teaching and hypocrisy.

Lord, thank You for the incredible faith of the Syrophoenician woman who wouldn't give up. Help me to have that same humble persistence and trust in Your goodness, even when I don't understand Your ways. Open my eyes and ears to discern Your truth, and protect me from false teachings. In Jesus' name, Amen.
