💭 What This Means

Today's reading is packed with dramatic events, starting with Herod's troubled conscience. He hears about Jesus' miracles and can only think of John the Baptist, whom he had regretfully beheaded. The story of John's death is a tragic tale of a rash oath and a vengeful woman, silencing a prophet who spoke truth to power. After hearing this news, Jesus sought a quiet place, but the crowds followed. Moved with compassion for them, Jesus performed one of His most famous miracles: feeding over five thousand people with just five loaves and two fish, with twelve baskets of leftovers. Immediately after, He sent His disciples across the sea and went to pray. When a storm arose, Jesus came to them, walking on the water, calming their fears with the words, "It is I; be not afraid." Peter even stepped out of the boat to walk to Him. The day ends with Jesus healing many simply by their touching His garment in Gennesaret, showing His continued power and compassion.

Lord, today's reading shows Your incredible power and compassion. You fed thousands, walked on water, and healed many. Help me to trust You completely, even when I feel overwhelmed or in a storm, just like Peter. May I always remember that You are present and capable of anything. In Jesus' name, Amen.
