💭 What This Means

Today's reading shows Jesus moving from powerful healing miracles, like opening the eyes of the blind and casting out a demon from a mute man, to facing rejection in his own hometown. Despite his wisdom and mighty works, people there were offended because they knew him as the carpenter's son. This unbelief limited what he could do. Yet, Jesus' compassion for the crowds, seeing them as sheep without a shepherd, moves him to action. He calls his twelve disciples, gives them incredible power over sickness and demons, and sends them out. But this mission isn't easy. He warns them they'll be like sheep among wolves, facing persecution, even from their own families. They are to travel light, relying entirely on God's provision, and to fear God alone, not those who can only harm the body. This is a call to radical commitment, to take up their cross, and to lose their life for his sake, knowing that in doing so, they will truly find it.

Lord, thank You for the power You give Your followers to share Your kingdom. Help me to have the faith to receive Your healing and the courage to proclaim Your truth, even when it's difficult. Give me wisdom as I navigate a world that sometimes rejects You, and help me to trust in Your provision and protection, knowing I am more valuable than many sparrows. In Jesus' name, Amen.
