💭 What This Means
Today's reading introduces us to two very different people. First, Nicodemus, a religious leader, comes to Jesus at night, seeking understanding. Jesus tells him he must be 'born again,' a spiritual rebirth, not a physical one. It's in this conversation that we hear the profound truth of John 3:16: 'For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.' Then, we meet a Samaritan woman, an outcast, at a well in the middle of the day. Jesus breaks all social norms by speaking with her, offering her 'living water' that will satisfy her deepest thirst. He reveals her past and declares Himself to be the Messiah. This encounter shows Jesus reaching beyond religious and social boundaries. The woman's testimony leads many Samaritans to believe, realizing that Jesus is truly the Savior of the world. Meanwhile, Luke briefly notes the tragic news that John the Baptist has been imprisoned by Herod.
