💭 What This Means
Today's reading opens with Jesus, full of the Spirit, led into the wilderness for forty days. There, Satan tempts him repeatedly. Jesus, hungry and tested, resists each offer to turn stones to bread, to jump from the temple, or to worship the devil for earthly kingdoms. He defeats every temptation by quoting Scripture, showing perfect obedience and reliance on God's Word. Then, John the Baptist points to Jesus, declaring him the "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." We see Jesus begin to gather his first disciples, inviting them to "Come and see." His public ministry truly begins with his first miracle at the wedding in Cana, where he turns water into wine, revealing his glory and strengthening his disciples' faith. Finally, Jesus shows his divine authority and zeal for his Father's house by cleansing the temple, driving out the merchants and money changers, and declaring that he would rebuild the temple of his body in three days.
🙏 Let's Pray
Lord, thank You that Jesus perfectly resisted temptation in the wilderness, showing us how to rely on Your Word. Thank You that He is the Lamb of God who takes away our sin. Give me strength to face my own temptations and a zeal for Your house and Your purposes. Help me to believe and follow Him today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
