💭 What This Means
Today, the dramatic climax of the book of Esther unfolds. Esther risks her life by approaching the king, and with great wisdom, she invites him and Haman to two banquets. Haman, full of pride, revels in his favored position, yet his hatred for Mordecai consumes him, leading him to build gallows for his enemy. But God is at work behind the scenes. The king's sleepless night leads to the discovery of Mordecai's past loyalty, and in a remarkable turn of events, Haman is forced to publicly honor the very man he despises. At the second banquet, Esther courageously reveals Haman's wicked plot to annihilate her people. The king's fury erupts, and Haman is justly hanged on the gallows he prepared for Mordecai. Mordecai is elevated, and the Jews are empowered to defend themselves, leading to their deliverance and the establishment of the feast of Purim.
