💭 What This Means
Today we begin with the great joy of the temple's completion and dedication in Ezra. After years of hard work and opposition, the exiles finally celebrated Passover in the rebuilt house of God. But then we shift to a very different scene in Persia, years later, with the book of Esther. King Ahasuerus dethrones Queen Vashti, leading to a search for a new queen. Esther, a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, becomes queen, keeping her identity secret. When a powerful official named Haman plots to destroy all the Jews in the kingdom because Mordecai refuses to bow to him, Mordecai challenges Esther. He asks if she has come to her royal position "for such a time as this," reminding her that God can raise up deliverance even if she stays silent. Esther bravely decides to approach the king, even if it means risking her life, saying, "If I perish, I perish."

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness to Your people, even when they are scattered and in danger. Give us courage like Esther's to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult or risky. Help us to trust that You have placed us where we are for a purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
