💭 What This Means
Today's reading opens with a powerful indictment against Israel's corrupt leaders, who are called false shepherds. God condemns them for feeding themselves instead of caring for the flock, for neglecting the sick, lost, and broken. He promises to remove these bad shepherds and become the true Shepherd himself. He will search for his scattered sheep, gather them, and lead them to good pasture. He even promises to raise up "my servant David" as a future, righteous shepherd. Then, God declares judgment against Mount Seir, or Edom, for their hatred and rejoicing over Israel's suffering. But the prophecy turns back to hope for Israel. God promises to restore their land, make it fruitful, and gather them from exile. Most profoundly, he pledges to give them a new heart and a new spirit, removing their stony hearts and putting his own Spirit within them. This transformation, he says, is not for their sake, but for the glory of his holy name, so that all nations will know that he is the Lord.

Lord, thank You for being the Good Shepherd who cares for Your flock. Thank You for not abandoning us, even when we go astray or are led by those who fail us. Give me a new heart and a new spirit, just as You promised, so that I can walk in Your ways. May my life bring glory to Your holy name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
