💭 What This Means
Today's reading shows us the tragic depth of human stubbornness and the consequences of refusing God's clear word. In Jeremiah, the people ask the prophet to seek God's will, promising to obey whatever He says, good or bad. But when God tells them to stay in Judah and trust Him, they accuse Jeremiah of lying and defiantly march into Egypt. There, they double down on their idolatry, even blaming their suffering on *stopping* their worship of false gods. God promises that the very evils they fled will find them in Egypt. Meanwhile, Ezekiel speaks to those left in Israel, who wrongly believe they deserve the land despite their wickedness. He reveals that people listen to his words like a pleasant song, but their hearts are far from obeying. Both prophets deliver powerful warnings about the futility of hearing God's truth without truly heeding it.

Lord, it's hard to hear how Your people refused to listen and obey, even when You spoke so clearly. Forgive me for the times I hear Your word but don't act on it, or when my heart is set on my own way. Help me to truly listen, trust, and obey You with all my heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.
