💭 What This Means
Today's reading in Ezekiel holds a powerful, sobering message. God begins by refusing to be inquired of by the elders, recounting Israel's long history of rebellion, starting in Egypt, continuing through the wilderness, and into the promised land. Despite their constant idolatry, injustice, and profaning of His Sabbaths, God repeatedly says He acted "for My name's sake" to preserve His reputation among the nations. He promises a severe judgment, a "sword" drawn against Jerusalem, cutting off both righteous and wicked. Chapter twenty two details the city's many sins, calling it a "bloody city" for its rampant idolatry, oppression, and immorality. Yet, even amidst this fierce judgment, there is a glimmer of hope: God will gather them again, purge out the rebels, and reign over them. He also promises that the crown will be overturned until "he come whose right it is," pointing to a future ruler.

Lord, it's hard to hear the depth of Israel's rebellion and Your righteous anger. Thank You that even in judgment, You act for Your name's sake, always faithful to Your promises. Help me to remember Your holiness and to live in a way that honors Your name today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
