💭 What This Means

Today's reading paints a stark picture of God's judgment on Israel and Judah. In Ezekiel 22, God likens His people to dross, impurities to be melted away in the furnace of His wrath because of their widespread sin. Prophets, priests, princes, and people alike were corrupt. God even says He looked for someone to stand in the gap, but found no one. Chapter 23 uses the graphic parable of two sisters, Aholah and Aholibah, representing Samaria and Jerusalem, to illustrate their deep spiritual adultery through alliances with foreign nations and idolatry. Their unfaithfulness led to their inevitable destruction. We then read the historical accounts in 2 Kings and Jeremiah, confirming the exact day Nebuchadnezzar began his siege against Jerusalem. Ezekiel 24 concludes by portraying Jerusalem as a boiling pot, full of wickedness that cannot be cleansed. God declares His judgment is final and will not be turned back, because their filthiness remained.
