💭 What This Means
Today's reading swings from intense judgment to glorious hope. Isaiah chapter thirty four describes God's fierce vengeance on nations, painting a picture of utter desolation where the land becomes burning pitch and is inhabited only by wild beasts. But then, chapter thirty five offers a stunning contrast. The wilderness will blossom like a rose, the blind will see, the deaf will hear, and the lame will leap for joy. A way of holiness will open for the redeemed to return to Zion with everlasting joy. Micah then reinforces themes of both judgment and restoration. He condemns corrupt leaders and false prophets who exploit God's people. Yet, amidst warnings of destruction and exile to Babylon, Micah gives us one of the most powerful prophecies in all scripture. From Bethlehem, a ruler will come, whose origins are from everlasting, who will feed his flock in the strength of the Lord, and bring peace.

Lord, thank You for the promise of Your coming King, the one from Bethlehem whose goings forth are from everlasting. Even in the midst of warnings and judgment for sin, You always offer hope and a way of holiness. Help me to walk in Your ways and anticipate the day when You make all things new. In Jesus' name, Amen.
